Puppis has
Puppis has , or SNR G260.4-03.4 is a Rémanent of supernova of the Constellation of the Poupe. It is in an area rich in remanent, since it recovers partially the area of the sky of remanent the Vela (XYZ) (or SNR G263.9-03.3), and is close to another remanent very known, X-ray J0852.0-4622 (Junior Calved). As its name indicates it Puppis is the strongest zone of emission of Ondes radio of the constellation of the Poupe has (see Désignation of the sources of waves radio).
Physical characteristics
The remanent one is difficult to locate with precision, because its emission is superimposed on that of Calved (XYZ).
It appears in the shape of shell, more shining in its part is, its western part being badly delimited. It is not exactly spherical, its angular Taille variable between 50 and 60 minutes of arc.
Its distance, estimated by the study of the Absorption HI gives a value of 2,2 kpc, which confers to him a ray of about 15 to 18 parsecs. Its age can be estimated by the study of the dynamics of some of its filaments and is evaluated at approximately 3700 years, value compatible with its physical size.
Central object
The center of remanent has an not-identified source of X-rays called X-ray J0822-4300. This source is regarded as being probable a neutron star whose emission of surface is detected in X. It is however not detected in a clear way in the form of Pulsar, in spite of an advertisement made in this direction in 1999. The source is thus primarily similar to that of the center of the remanent young person Cassiopée has, or of Kesteven 79, RCW 103 and X-ray J1713.7−3946.
It had been marked that a variable source of very regular period of 75,2797300 ms and slowly slowing down (1,49× 10 -13 s· S -1 ) had been detected, conferring on this pulsar a age characteristic 8000 years and a Magnetic field of surface of 3,4× 10 8 T. This advertisement was thereafter questioned by nondetection in the radio operator field of the associated emission.
No optical counterpart with this source was detected until the magnitudes of 25,0 (band B) and 23,6 (band R).
