Punk Gaelic

The Gaelic Punk is a kind of Punk gathering groups singing in Scottish to preserve and develop this minority language.

The term is also used to describe the influence of the music Celtique of the group The Pogues. Other groups assert this style of punk like Flogging Molly, Real McKenzies and Dropkick Murphys which, while singing in English, uses traditional instruments gaelic like the Cornemuse and the Fiddle.

Punk Gaelic recently drew the attention of the mediae, to chains in Gaélique and in English in Scotland, with reports on groups like Oi Polloi and Mill has oil Rud, which started to write and record in Scottish language.

History

If Runrig is most known of the group of Gaelic rock'n'roll, the history of this musical genre is also marked by other groups singing as a Scot such as Ultravox. However, for a long time the punk gaelic was regarded as a simple variety of the folk rock'n'roll Gaelic.

The Scottish language made its first appearance on the punk scene at the time of the festival Edinburgh European City off Punk in 1997. The event, relayed by the media, made it possible groups to promote the Scottish language as well as other minority languages in the world, so as to preserve the Cultural diversity.

The groups of Punk singing in Welsh, like Anhrefn, were also a source of inspiration, insofar as they existed since longer and already had met a certain success. However, the major difference with the punk gaelic results from what punk Welsh developed around the local languages, whereas the punk gaelic impregnated foreign languages.

Groups of punk gaelic

There exist primarily three groups of punk which sing as a Scot:
