Puna

The Puna is the area of the Andes cordillera located between 3.500 and 4.200 meters of altitude, reason for which the air there is very rarefied. The climate is cold there, with rare precipitations and an annual average temperature of 0°C with -7°C. Its relief is very diverse and in general corrugated. One finds there plates, Volcan S, Lac S, Lagune S salted and salars.

Precipitations

The puna extends on south-east from the Peru, the south-west of the Bolivia, the extreme North-East of the Chile, and the Argentinian North-West or NOA. In this zone, precipitations decrease by north in the south, so that the Peruvian puna can be regarded as good sprinkled (surpluses of precipitations contributing to create the big lake Titicaca there), while the Argentinian puna of the province of Catamarca is desert and quasi uninhabited.

Flora and fauna

The flora includes/understands cold species resistant and (or) to the dryness, in particular of cactacées, and around the lakes and of the wetlands of the typha dominguensis or will totoras. The inhabitants cultivate there the Orge, the Potato, the Quinoa and the Maca.

Among the animals autochtones, the typical mammals are the LAMA, the Alpaca, the Vigogne and the Guanaco. The birds autochtones include/understand it Condor of the Andes, the ouette of the Andes or huallata, the Flamingo of the Andes or parihuana, the duck of the puna and others still.
