Pulkkila

Pulkkila is a municipality mid-west of the Finland, in the province of Oulu and the area of Ostrobotnie of North.

History

If the first mention of the place goes back to 1560, the parish enters truly the history of Finland only in 1808. Within the framework of the War of Finland, a battles is held to with it the May 2nd at the time of against Swedish offensive of spring 1808. The troops of the Swedish general Sandels gain there a clear victory over the Russian troops of Obuhov.

The first church was built in 1671, then rebuilt on several occasions following the fires. The current church goes back to 1909 (Josef Stenbäck) and the bell-tower of 1843 (according to the plans of Carl Ludwig Engel).

At the 20th century, the commune experiences a modest development around the industry of the metal, which remains the first employer today.

Geography

The commune is located in the valley of the river Siikajoki. The river is barred since 1970 by important a Barrage. The storage reservoir of Uljua represents on average 147 million m ³ for 28 km ² but its surface varies largely during the year.

The village itself is crossed by main road 4 (E75), the North-South main axe of the country. It is located at approximately 90 km in the south of the provincial capital Oulu.

The close municipalities are Rantsila in north, Kestilä in the east, Piippola in the south and Haapavesi in the west.
