Puerto del Rosario is the capital of the commune of the same name and the island of Fuerteventura. It counts two protected natural spaces Parks it Rural of Betancuria and Paisaje Protegido de Vallebrón, which extend on other communes. It was known under the name of Puerto Cabras until 1956.
