Political economist and economist, Riccardo Petrella , born in Italy in 1941, is titular of a doctorate in political sciences and social of the University of Florence (Italy).
It was appointed Doctor honoris causa of the University of Umea (S), of Roskilde (DK), of Katholieke Universiteit Brussel (B), Polytechnic Faculties of Mons (B) of the Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble (F), of the University from Quebec in Montreal (NDT).
From 1967 to 1975 he was scientific Secrétaire and then Directeur Center European of Coordination of Research in Social sciences in Vienna (Austria). Between 1976 and 1978 he was Senior Researcher at the International counsel of Social sciences at Paris (France) and Ford Foundation Fellow.
From December 1978 until 1994 it directed program FAST (Forecasting and Assessment in Science and Technology) to the European commission of the European Community to Brussels (Belgium).
From 1982 he was Professor invited then extraordinary Professor at the Catholic University of Leuwen (Belgium) where he taught " especially; Universalization of the économie". Since 2006 it was allowed with the eméritat. He was also invited Professor of the VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) of 1999 to 2005. Between June 2005 and December 2006 he was President of Acqueduc of Pouilles (Italy).
He founded in 1991 the Groupe of Lisbon, composed of twenty and one members of which academics, managers of undertakings, journalists and persons in charge of great cultural institutions, with an aim of promoting critical analyzes of current forms of universalization.
From " The Proclamation of Eau" , it founded in 1997 the International committee for a world contract of the water, of which he is the general secretary.
From 2003, he is the initiator of the University of the Community property from which work on an experimental basis began in Italy (" Faculty of Eau")and in Belgium (" Faculty of Altérité").
Its standpoint against the Marchandisation of the world and for the defense of the community property makes of it an emblematic figure of the Altermondialisme.
