Publius Vatinius is a Roman statesman .

In 63, it is named Questeur, the year when Cicéron is Consul.

Cicéron thinks whereas the election of Vatinius was obtained by the influence of one of the consuls. It sends it to Pouzzoles but its extortions are if overpowering that the inhabitants were obliged to complain about its control to the consul.

He is used later as Légat under Caius Cosconius. Once again, Cicéron carries felt sorry for against him for flight and extortion.

In 59, as a Tribun of the plebs it sells its services with Jules César, which was then consul with Marcus Calpurnius Bibulus. Vatinius becomes a partisan of César. It defends several proposals so that César receives the provinces of Gaulle cisalpine and Illyricum during five years, the senate adding then the transalpine province of Gaulle.

It is during its tribunat that Lucius Vettius showed many statesmen, of which Cicéron, to take part in a plot against the life of Pompée. It leaves Rome with César, as a legate as a Gaulle. It returns quickly to Rome, like candidate with the load of Préteur, but it fails. Its animosity towards Cicéron continues and it appears as a witness against Milo and Sestius, two friends of Cicéron.

In 55, after many movements, Pumped and Crassus are elected consuls, Caton is then proposed by the aristocrats as praetor. To counter it the two consuls propose Vatinius, which gains the election.

In 51, it turns over as a Gaulle, as legate of Jules César. It remains with César during the beginning of the civil war. César sends it in Greece with peace proposals to Pompée. But instead of being used with the Battle as Pharsale, it defends Brindisi against Decimus Laelius, which conducts an attack on the city with part of the fleet of Pumped. In 47, it is rewarded while reaching the consulate.

In 46, it beats Marcus Octavius, a partisan of Pumped with an large army, in Illyrie, act which is worth a Ovation to him. It is forced to give up its army with Marcus Junius Brutus into 44, after the death of César, when Brutus goes in Macedonia to take the command of its province, because the troops of Vatinius had been declared in favor of Brutus.

The last traces of him go back to December 43, where it is rewarded by a Triomphe.
