The word publication (of Latin publicare , “to make public”) indicates in the beginning the action which consists in carrying information to the knowledge of the public, “to publish it”. One speaks thus about the publication about a law, figures of unemployment or results of a company.
By extension, the term took the direction of impression, publication or setting on sale of a printed work (Journal, delivers, etc). In the language running, one gives the name of publication to the Ouvrage published itself (delivers, article, magazine, document). One speaks thus about scientific publications, clandestine publications, specialized publications, etc
Lastly, in a more modern direction, the publication also indicates the provision of data or information in data-processing environments, in particular on Databases and Internet (publication on line, electronic publication). The term can also be synonymous with edition of documents, as in the expression “desktop publishing” (or CAM).
