Publication

The word publication (of Latin publicare , “to make public”) indicates in the beginning the action which consists in carrying information to the knowledge of the public, “to publish it”. One speaks thus about the publication about a law, figures of unemployment or results of a company.

By extension, the term took the direction of impression, publication or setting on sale of a printed work (Journal, delivers, etc). In the language running, one gives the name of publication to the Ouvrage published itself (delivers, article, magazine, document). One speaks thus about scientific publications, clandestine publications, specialized publications, etc

Lastly, in a more modern direction, the publication also indicates the provision of data or information in data-processing environments, in particular on Databases and Internet (publication on line, electronic publication). The term can also be synonymous with edition of documents, as in the expression “desktop publishing” (or CAM).

History and statute

The publications are subjected to different legal regulations.
  • In France, prohibits it to present under one day favorable the “crimes or offenses likely to demoralize childhood or youth, or to inspire or maintain the ethnic prejudices” in the periodicals for children and teenagers. The diffusion of the investigations carried out at the time of an election or a referendum frames.
