The public transport Lyons ( TCL ) serve 64 communes of the agglomeration Lyon is born and constitute the second grid system jointly French.

Organization

Network TCL is managed by two entities:

  • the Mixed trade-union of transport for the Rhone and the Lyons agglomeration (SYTRAL) which is the organizing authority, and owner of mark “TCL”. The SYTRAL was called in the beginning the Trade union of Public transport of Region of Lion (TCRL) created in 1942;
  • the privately held company Keolis Lyon (new name of the SLTC since June 2005), subsidiary of the group Keolis, exploiting network within the framework of a Public service delegation. Before 1967 this company was called the Company of the Slow trains and Trams of Lyon (OTL) and still sometimes some old Lyoneses call it like that.

The contract of public service delegation in progress expiring at the end of the year 2004, the SYTRAL retained two concurrent offers for its renewal: that of SLTC (Keolis), it “leaving” and that the grouping Transdev - the RATP. The RATP, which cannot, by the law, being put in competition in its stronghold Paris IEN, seeks to extend its sphere of activity in France like abroad. The current owner (Keolis) was finally taken back.

Rise Front door

Since July 2006, the customers of network DRUNK TCL have redécouvert little by little a mode of exploitation, already used by many networks in France and in the world: rise by Front door (MPA), except the strong lines Cristalis C1 and accessible C3 in coil. This novel mode of operation, very accompanied at its beginnings by agents TCL for a a little difficult installation (involving some quite comprehensible impatience, the perceived original intention being limit of the fraud), finally settled and one gradually perceives the less embarrassment pulled by different flows (gone up to front, exit with the back).

Funiculars

One of the first Funiculaire S for travellers in the world was inaugurated in Lyon in 1862, on the slopes of the Cross-Russet-red , and the city knew to five funiculars functioning at the same time with the turning of XIXe and XXe centuries.
Today, two funiculars, affectionately called “strings”, still climb the hill of Fourvière:
  • Midsummer's Day - Tiny - Saint-Just
  • Midsummer's Day - Fourvière

These funiculars are with single track, with central avoidance in the middle of the line. For the Midsummer's Day line - Saint-Just, this avoidance corresponds to the Minimes station. For the line of Fourvière, the crossing is done without arrêt.
The way of the Midsummer's Day funicular - Fourvière is done on approximately 400 meters with a slope with 31%. That of the Midsummer's Day funicular - Just Saint is done on approximately 700 meters with a slope of 18% between the stations Midsummer's Day and Minimes, and 6% between the stations Minimes and Saint-Just.

Since the classification of the center of the town of Lyon to the World heritage of humanity in 1997, the funiculars know an increase in the tourist frequentation.

In addition the old funicular of Cross-Package, renovated and converted into Cog railway, was integrated in 1974 into the line C of the Métro of Lyon.
