Public library and cantonal of Zoug

The Public library and cantonal of Zoug (BMC) is at the same time the Public library of the town of Zoug and the library of studies and formation of the canton. In this function, it offers in addition to funds current for many people of all the ages, a room of reading containing a choice of reference books. As a cantonal Library, it collects also the documents zougois thus named Tugiensia .

Chronology

1836 - official Foundation of the public library. Its beginnings goes up however until the 15th century; the first precursor was with the Saint-Oswald church (created in 1480).
1941 - the collections of the cantonal Bibliothèque from now on are managed by the library.
1984 - Revision of the biblio-economic contract enters the City and the Canton of Zoug.
1986 - Removal with the current address. The building was used with the Middle Ages in so much tank of corn and later as a barracks.

Funds

With the BMC are approximately: 197000 media (at the end of 2006) like books, audio books, video cassettes and DVD, CD and CD-ROM, 800 periodicals and: 1247 manuscripts.

Tugiensia

The printed papers form zougois contain all the publications like books, photographs, booklets and not-books having an author or contents zougois or having been published in the canton. The BMC of Zoug tries to collect as many monographs zougoises possible. The articles of the newspapers are selected according to their importance and size.

The Bibliography zougoise

The Bibliographie zougoise is a matter catalog of the Collection zougoise . It contains all the documents (audio-visual books, charts, documents or plays) having a relation between contents and the canton of Zoug. An extract of the Bibliography zougoise is published each year in the Geschichtsfreund (the historical friend), belonging to the Bibliographie of V places (either Lucerne, Uri, Schwytz, Unterwald and Zoug).

Files images

The file of images contains approximately: 21000 photographs, postcards and posters.

Manuscripts

The collection consists of: 1247 Manuscrit S which is not empruntables. However, they are consultable in the room of reading.

Printed small size

The printed papers form of small size zougois contain folders, programs of demonstrations, leaflets and other things similar. They are gathered since 1982 in the communes and are grouped in approximately: 1900 files sets of themes.

The chronicle zougoise

Since 2002, the BMC manages a database referring of the events zougois. Research can be limited by date, category and place. The chronicle zougoise supplements the already existing chronicle in the Calendrier zougois .

The file of characters zougois

Ernst Zumbach (1894-1976) was recording landscapes and wrote amongst other things the Bibliographie of social science zougoise . The bibliographical part is currently consultable on microfilm, its contents will enter nevertheless to the file of characters zougois , accessible since the Web site from the library.

Use

The library places at the disposal of all the people living in the area or working respectively going to school with the canton. With share of the documents of its clean funds, books and publications not being with the BMC are empruntables by the interlibrary loan .

Catalog on line

The catalogs in line (OPAC) contains approximately: 110 000 documents of the adult and young sections, the room of reading as well as closed store. Research can be limited according to the information support (delivers, cassette, CD, DVD, video, CD-ROM, chart).

Catalog on cards

Documents older assets before 1990 is not entirely with the catalog on line and must be required in the catalogs on cards . This one is divided into four categories:

catalogs alphabetical by author or anonymous title;
catalogs by matters (according to the decimal system);
catalogs people;
catalogs places.
