Public library
See also: BM
A public library (BM) is a Public library dependant on a commune.
The public libraries on the spot accommodate the public for the consultation (in general free) and for the loan in residence (which often requires a paying inscription) of books, of sound Document S or vidéos. They more and more often propose accesses to Internet and organize cultural demonstrations , like exposures or meetings with writers. Some use Bibliobus.
In France
The public libraries oldest have patrimonial collections. Fifty four of them are classified public libraries, of which part of the collections belongs to the State and who employ a civil servant State and sometimes several.
The public libraries built since the Années 1980 are sometimes called media libraries , without one being able however to generalize the relationship between this name and the presence of media other than the book. Certain large libraries built in the Years 2000, with an important financial aid of the State, are called public libraries with regional vocation (BMVR).
Since the beginning of the years 2000, more and more communes transfer management from their library to a Communauté of agglomeration or to a Communauté of communes. One then speaks about inter-commune library .
