Public The Enemy (wrestling)

The Public Enemy was a team made up of Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge with the Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). It gained the titles by team of all these federations except the WWF. Their name comes from the group of rap of the same name, and before becoming fellow-members, Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge had a competition of high flight to the Japan.

Although the Dudley Boyz are often credited to have popularized the tables match in wrestling, the Enemy Public were in fact the prmeière equips in the history with the ECW history to use the tables in a regular way in their matches.

Extreme Championship Wrestling

The Public Enemy made its beginning with the ECW with Ultra Clash in 1993, whereas the booker Paul Heyman gave them a character of white men who adopted and liked the culture hip hop drandissante in America. Heyman said that it had the inspiration of creating The Public Enemy of an article of Time Magazine about violence in the dark streets of Los Angeles to beginning of the year 90, with a quotation which said “the generation of today is frightened today food than to die”. The team quickly became one of most popular of the federation; their style of combat violent, supplemented objects in any kind and tables, made them one of the teams (Kayfabe) feared more with the federation and one will not have had to wait a long time before they gain their first (of the four) ECW Tag TEAM Championship. Whereas the Enemy Public were vites adopted by the majority of the fans, Heyman was inspired to bring back The Gangstas (New Jack and Mustapha Saed, of the Smoky Mountain Wrestling ) to compete with TPE. The Gangstas began long immediately and bloody feud with The Public Enemy, which saw hard lifestyle the “, sinks, of the west coast” of Gangstas against that “quieter coming from the east coast” of the Enemy Public. Their competition is that which many people quote like one of “traditional” of the ECW.

Memorable moments

The Public Enemy was also implied in some of the most memorable moments of the ECW. To an occasion, during a matche by team against Cactus Jack and Terry Funk, Terry Funk turned to crowd and asked the fans if it could use a chair. A fan immediately threw a chair on the boxing ring, it was not necessary as much of it so that the other fans make in the same way. The boxing ring was finally filled with chairs with the two members of the Enemy Public completely buried below.

In another accident with Tampa, the neighborhoods of the end of their passage to the ECW, The Public Enemy asked the fans to come on the boxing ring to dance with them last once. Whereas more and more from fans came on the boxing ring, all dancing, this one ended up collapsing.

With ECW House Party 1999 (on January 10th), The Public Enemy made its return very awaited for a match to the ECW Arena, to answer the challenge of the Dudley Boyz. At that time, they were always under contract with the WCW, but they successfully faced (with the assistance of New Jack) Dudleys. After this, Johnny Grunge took the microphone and affirmed that “if you open our bodies and look at our hearts, it has there only one thing which remains there, and it is the ECW! ” Grunge thanked then Dudleys to hold “the house which the Enemy Public built” whereas they were left, and they invited then everyone to come on the boxing ring to celebrate.

World Championship Wrestling

In 1996, after their success with the ECW, The Public Enemy signed a contract with the World Championship Wrestling (WCW). When it arrived at the WCW, they continued in their perosnnage of two white men liking rep. Although the majority of the fans of the WCW fanbasn' was not very familiar with product ECW at that time, they always brought back tables on the boxing ring. Because of their style, they did not go with the WCW. They remained three years here, and gained WCW World Tag TEAM Championship on only one occasion (in a victory racroc vis-a-vis Harlem Heat) in 1996.

World Wrestling Federation

The Public Enemy from went away thereafter to the World Wrestling Federation. However, they were not well accepted in " coulisses" by els all-in wrestlers veterans of the WWF and the personnel, because of animosity on the fact that The Public Enemy chose the WCW instead of the WWF when they had their chance. Rocko Rock was also forced to change its name which was curtailed in " Flyboy" Rocko , not to carry " confusion" with The Rock'n'roll. They made their beginning with the WWF the February 22nd 1999 with Raw is War . They did not remain a long time and left.

Activity later

The Public Enemy briefly turned over to the WCW after having left the WWF, the two men being implied in the famous " WCW Hardcore Junkyard Invitational." None of both member turned over thereafter on a program of the WCW, and The Public Enemy made to a last appearance with ECW one TNN, which alalit to be their last appearance on television.

The team made short appearances on the independent scene after having carried out appearances with the WCW and ECW, appearing in a nostalgic federation ECW, Pro-Bread Pro Wrestling (3PW), like in quelqeus territories of NWA. They also took part in the not-diffused recordings of the X Wrestling Federation, under the name " South Philly Poses, " with like managing Jasmine St Claire.

Death

The September 22nd 2002, Ted Petty (" Flyboy" Rocco Rock) died of the continuations of an heart attack after a show. Johnny Grunge was semi-pensioner a few years after the XWF failed to find an agreement with a television. February 16th, 2006, Mike Durham (Johnny Grunge) died at her house of the continuations of complications with a Apnée of the sleep. A friend took along Durham to the hospital, but once arrived Durham marked had died.

Ian Rotten, former colleague and friend of Ted, paid homage to him by giving its name to a tournament which it organizes in promotion that it directs (IWA Mid-South), the Ted Petty Invitational . This tournament is one of the most important events of the American independent circuit.
