The Pub rock'n'roll is a kind of music Rock appeared in Great Britain in the Années 1970. It draws its name owing to the fact that it was played in public mainly in the pubs, only place agreeing to accommodate the groups.
From the beginning of the year 1970, whereas the Hit parades S are invaded by the progressive rock groups with symphonic pieces or Glam Rock, some young British musicians request a rock'n'roll more exciting and more close to its roots Blues and Rythm and blues in the line of the Rolling Stones and to The Pretty Things of the first years ten years earlier. In front of the obvious lack of availability of such a music, they are caught in hand and start to play it themselves.
Their first efforts consist of Reprise again S of traditional of the Blues (Bo Diddley, John Lee Hooker, etc) and of the Rythm' Blues (Rufus Thomas, Huey Piano Smith, Chuck Berry) played with the energy of despair to overcome the trouble. These recoveries are accompanied soon by their own compositions giving rise to an energetic rock'n'roll.
Brinsley Schwarz, older group, had opened the road while starting to play in the pubs, fault of being able to find concert halls of small size corresponding to their public. The owners of pubs quickly realize of the benefit in such concerts on their turnovers and number of them arranges their buildings in function.
Dr. Feelgood, formed in 1973 is undoubtedly the group most representative of the kind. It are also most popular thanks to their dynamic concerts and with their albums which go up in the hit-parades. They show the example and are soon followed many other groups.
In 1976, a whole new generation of musicians who grew with the sound of the Pub rock'n'roll, forms the movement Punk. Joe Strummer even will make him its first weapons in the group Pub rock'n'roll The 101 ' ers before leaving to form the Clash.
The Pub rock'n'roll, after having only flirté with the top of the hit-parades, turns over to anonymity but does not disappear. Dr. Feelgood continued, faithful to the tradition until the death of his singer Lee Brillaux in 1994 and other groups, such Nine Below Zero or The Inmates take again the torch with the passing of years.
Even if there remains relatively obscure for the general public, the Pub rock'n'roll is a big step of the evolution of the rock'n'roll. It allowed the creation of a network of places to play as a public, which has his turn encouraged the creation of many groups.
He encouraged also the creation of the first independent labels, with initially Stiff Records, then many others.
He was thus of a great influence in the development of the punk movement. When Clean Them arriverent in round in 1976 bringing the fine words and that Malcolm McLaren applied the receipts learned to New York by creating Sex-Pistols, a fertile compost started to germinate and the Punk groups, nourished with the energy of the Pub rock'n'roll left like mushrooms.
