Ptolémée Dionysos , born towards -61, is the son of Ptolémée {{XII}} '' Aulète Néos Dionysos ''. It succeeds his father in -51 and reigns jointly with his older sister Cléopâtre {{VII}} that it marries. It is in fact the toy of its mentors and ministers Achillas and Pothin which organizes against Cléopâtre a revolt (probably in end -49).

The young queen, takes refuge initially in Syria, raises troops and returns to fight her brother. It is in this rather confused context that in July -48 Ptolémée makes assassinate Pompée (July 28th -48) come to take refuge in Egypt after its defeat vis-a-vis César. He hopes, at least his advisers because the king is only 13 years old, to reconcile the favors of the winner but attracts only its contempt.

César remains in Egypt and tries to reconcile the brother and the sister thus imposing the return of Cléopâtre on the capacity. Ptolémée takes the weapons and initially puts in César difficulty (fine -48) which has only reduced manpower. Finally beaten, Ptolémée escapes but drowns, seems it accidentally the January 15th -47. Ptolémée {{XIV}} succeeds to him like husband and associated with Cléopâtre.
