Pterodroma cahow
The petrel of Bermuda is known, in the Bermuda like the cahow, a name derived from its mysterious cries. This marine bird is the national symbol of Bermuda. It is also a symbol of hope for the nature conservation: this species, which one had thought extinct for 330 years was rédécouverte at the beginning of the 20th century.
In 1951, 18 surviving nests were found on a small island of Bermuda. A program of conservation was implemented. The population counted, in 2005, approximately 250 individuals.
