the gnostic ones believed the man made up of three elements: matter (in gr. hylê), the heart (psyché) and the spirit (pneuma). They divided humanity into three groups, in each one of which one of the three elements of nature dominated: hylic , or material men: believers and materialists; psychic beings having only one to know intellectual (theologists, priests…) submitted to the demiurge, to creator of the heart, i.e. a lower éon, and disciples of his Christ: they was the catholics; finally, pneumatic , regenerated by the arrival of the Spirit of God: they was the gnostic ones, the initiates having lived a direct knowledge of God to the inside.
