Psittacula krameri

The Perruche with collar ( Psittacula krameri ) is large a Afro-Asian Perruche. The species bears the name of the Austrian naturalist Wilhelm Heinrich Kramer. It was introduced out of its territory and of the populations exist in England, Spain (in particular in Andalusia and Catalonia) and in certain towns of Europe.

With Brussels, as example, the population of the Parakeets with collar is evaluated to several thousands of individuals and is in full extension. The specialists worry about competition, particularly on the level of the sites of nestings with the local avian species.

It has been also present in Île-de-France for several years, in particular in the parks and gardens in the south of Paris, and in the South of France in the area of Frejus in particular.

List subspecies

The Parakeet with collar is subdivided in four very close subspecies:
  • Psittacula krameri borealis , commonly called Parakeet with collar-boreal alias of Neumann (Neumann, 1915);
  • Psittacula krameri krameri , commonly called Parakeet with collar-African nominal (Scopoli, 1769);
  • Psittacula krameri manillensis , commonly called Parakeet with collar-Indian (Bechstein, 1800);
  • Psittacula krameri parvirostris , commonly called Parakeet with collar-Abyssinian (Souance, 1856).

Description

The male is characterized by its beautiful black collar from jai accompanied by a thin pink band nuquale. The female and the immature ones of the two sexes present for their part no if not that a shade of collar (gray) and bands clear nuquales (always of the same color but of colors paler than the surrounding plumage)

The male is a very good speaker and whistling, its words are clear. The female whistles especially and can say some words.

Food mode

The parakeet with collar nourishes primarily fruits and seeds. In Africa, its food is based on the fruits (like those of the Ficus and the Baobab S, figs, mangos and the guavas) and seeds. In captivity, the preferred food of this bird is consisted by varied plants and of any types (edible almonds, arrachides, bays, cereals, flowers, fruits, germs of seeds and/or leguminous plants, vegetables, very cooked leguminous plants, nut, pasta products Al cogs, quinoa, rice, greenery…)
