PSION is a mark of software and British computer material . It was created by David Potter in 1980. The initials mean Potter' S Scientific Instruments ONE .
Starting from 1983, PSION develops programs for DOS and Sinclair Quantum Leap : the four principal programs étaient :
These programs, first Office automation continuation in the world, will be marketed under the name of PC FURNACE and X Changes.
As of 1984, PSION launches out in the manufacture of computers.
It will found Symbian ltd with Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola and Matsushita in 1996.
Into 1998, the company is divided into a software pole and a material pole.
In 2000, Psion repurchases Teklogix and amalgamates its activities with its subsidiary company B-to-B Psion Enterprise. The subsidiary company takes the name of PsionTeklogix.
In 2002, the subsidiary company Psion Software is created. It produces software in the field of the electronic courier. This subsidiary company is yielded to Visto in 2003.
In 2004, Psion yields all the rights which remains to him on the operating system Symbian OS at Nokia, Symbian not being more regarded as being an central element of the strategy of Psion.
Currently, PsionTeklogix is the only operational entity of Psion.
Launched in 1986, its posting reaches 2, then 4 lines (model CM, XP, then LZ), in several successive alternatives, of 8 KB to 64 KB of RAM. It has connectors for port series or reader of code-bars.
In addition to the database, it integrates a diary with alarm. It has two additional ports for the extensions. 2 slots which makes it possible to him to store data or programs on packs (eprom) energy of 64K with 512k recognized as disc has and B.
It is delivered with directions for use written by Mike Show as well as a software making it possible to control the posting of screen and to create databases, that is to say to program. The language is called OPL (to organize Psion Langage). The program " .OPL" once compiled the extension " carries; .OPO". Also for the programmers an emulator in back making it possible leaves to create and test the progammes on PC before flasher with the CommslinkPsion cable on the packs. In Belgium, Roy Dictus and Daniel Dubocq publish complementary books on this programming. Daniel Dubocq creates programs and openly publishes in his books his programming and line by line explains it. It also creates a Fan club " Psionistes" composed primarily of young person from 14 to 18 years, it in partnership with " Connection" microphone; importer and associated with Psion ltd (the U.K.) at the time.
It integrates four ports of extension (débranchables hot without planting) whose cartridges are compatible until s3 MX, a big screen, a large keyboard, a tactile paving stone, 256 KB of RAM.
The operating system is SIBO, alias EPOC 16 (with graphical interface), and it integrates several applicatifs out of standard. It was programmable in a rudimentary version of OPL.
Its high price and its lack of compatibility PC made a commercial failure of it.
It is the first genuine palm computer, functioning with two piles AA, provided with a keyboard, of a multi-task operating system préemptif 16 bits SIBO, of a software continuation (word processing, database, diary, etc), of two ports for additional memory (FLASH or RAM), of 128 or 256 KB of memory, a connector series/parallel with 9 600 bit/s, of a computer programming language OPL, a nonbacklighted monochromic screen of 240 X 80 pixels.
The standard system and applicatifs are préinstallés on a nonmodifiable ROMANIAN.
It contains also a microphone and a loudspeaker.
Its processor, compatible 086 turns to 3 MHz.
S3 was provided with a software of exchange of information with MSDOS named SLINK.
A comms application (final) is integrated into the cable of connection (sold separately).
The apparatus was provided with a software of Windows  connection;: Psiwin, allowing the transfer of information and conversion with the principal Windows formats.
Its processor is a NEC V30H with 7,68 MHz.
Launched in 1997, Series 5 is a revolution in the world of the PSION.
Its operating system is now in 32 bits (EPOC), always multitask préemptif. Its language OPL evolved/moved to manage the cascaded menus and of many news functions, the interface is managed with the stylet on a touchscreen, always monochromic, but now equipped with a greater number of levels of gray.
The processor is a Acorn, of a power equivalent to a 486, with 4 or 8 Mo of RAM. It has nothing any more but one port for additional diskette, of a new format (Compact Flash), much less expensive and rewriteable without reformating.
The formats of files are not compatible with S3. Connection PC is done with Psiwin 2, which allows the conversion of the S3 files towards S5, except whenever S3 has more possibilities than S5 (case of large fields in the database).
Series 5 is equipped with a new infra-red, incompatible with that of Series 3.
It profits from many software updates. It is in this moment very required on the Net. A problem curtails its lifespan: the cable in tablecloth connecting the screen to the printed circuit.
The keyboard is much more comfortable than that of S3, and the memory is of 8 Mo.
More just Revo 16 Mo of memory, a navigator Internet.
It is much more convenient to use than a usual laptop, because it starts again instantaneously after a deactivation.
