The fox chenu ( Pseudalopex vetulus or Hoary zorro ), is a endemic Espèce Brésil, kind Pseudalopex ( false fox ).

It is about a slender animal, equipped with a relatively short and pointed muzzle, as well as broad ears. He lives mainly the Brazilian ecosystem of the Cerrado, although he can also be found in transitional habitats.

This animal is Omnivore, but generally nourishes Termites, of dung-beetles, other insects as well as the small vertebrate ones.

It should be noted that an other species, the Fox of Blanford, or Afghan Fox, is also indicated under the name of fox chenu

Description

The fox chenu has a short muzzle, small teeth, a peeling also runs, and of dark stripes on dorsal surface. Its tail is black with the end and its marked throat in a dark way along the dorsal line. Its ears and the part external of its legs are reddish or fawn-coloured. The upper part of its body is gray, while the lower part of the body is of cream-coloured color or chamois.

The animal weighs between 2,7 and 4 kilogs, the length of its tail ranges between 28 and 32 cm. That of the body since the head measures between 58 and 64cm.

It is more active during the day.

Food mode

The fox chenu nourishes mainly insects, like the termites, the grasshoppers… It also consumes rodents.

Localization

This species of fox lives in South America, in wood opened, the broussailleux grounds, the high plateaus of mountains, and savannas on the surface plain or strewn with trees.

Reproduction

The females of this species give rise to usually two even four renardeaux. They reproduce in general in autumn.
