A psalm is a poetic prayer of the Bible, made up of several verses. The majority of the Psalms were gathered, most probably for the liturgical use Jewish initially, Christian also thereafter, in the Livre of the Psalms. The king David itself, at the beginning of the 10th century before our era, would have written a certain number of it. The Psalms are songs and praises dedicated to the Eternal, poems of David and others…

The Chant of the Psalms is regulated with the Rythme of the Hours which represent Eight meetings of Prière of 24 hours. According to the theorists of the the Middle Ages, the harmonious science of the numbers form the spirit according to the divine Principles, and, the Music being itself a Science, it must obey these Préceptes.

The word comes from the old Greek ψαλμός ( psalmos ) which indicates an air played on the Psaltérion. It was employed in the Seventy to translate the Hebrew mizmor , which indicates a hymn accompanied by music.
