Prussian Saxony

The Prussian Saxony is a historical area of Germany, which formed one of the southernmost provinces of the Prussia.

History

The Prussian province of Saxony was made up in 1815 by the removed territories of Prussia to the Royaume of Saxony. These territories were:
  • most of old the Duchy of Saxony,
  • old the Circle of Thuringe,
  • the Prussian part of the principalities of Mersebourg, Naumbourg and Zeitz,
  • part of the circles of Leipzig, Misnie, Neustadt and Voigtland,
  • the greatest portion of the Principality of Erfurt,
  • south of the Eichsfeld,
  • a portion of the Henneberg and Principality of Querfurt,
  • all the County of Mansfeld,
  • the Principality of Halberstadt,
  • the Duchy of Magdeburg
  • the Old woman-Walk, almost all countries removed with king de Saxe.

This province, increased Anhalt, constituted in 1947 the Land of Saxony-Anhalt of the Soviet zone of occupation. This administrative division was removed in 1952, and was restored after the reunification of Germany.

Its capital was Magdeburg, then, in 1946, Halle.
