Proxirail could be the first operator of Fret of proximity in France.

History

The creation of the group of study for the installation of Proxirail was announced on September 26th, 2007. It originates in the will of the SNCF to remove the service of coaches isolated (allotment) in more than 260 stations of France. Indeed, the SNCF thus seeks to rectify the branch overdrawn freight since many years, by giving up the least profitable lines.

Goal of Proxirail

Proxirail would be launched in partnership with the SNCF, but would be financed by the chargers of the Center, of the financial partners, the State and the local government agencies.

Its goal would be to develop the Railway freight, in particular the local service roads towards the connections of freight “high banc” that the SNCF wants to set up.

According to press release, the first traffics could be set up since 2008.

Pilot area

The Center area was selected to be the pilot area of this operation. This one was committed with the State giving in state the railway network of the Area to height of 30 million euros within the framework of the Contract of State-Area Projects and the program European. One recent audit, financed by PROFFER, estimated that it would be necessary between 75 and 150 million euros to regenerate the rail network dedicated to freight.
