The Provisional government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA) was the political arm of the Front of national release (FLN) during the Guerre of Algeria. The GPRA negotiated the peace agreements (Accords of Evian) with the France in 1962.

History

The official announcement of the constitution of the GPRA took place to the Cairo the September 19th 1958. The same day, was made public the first declaration of the President of the GPRA, Ferhat Abbas, defining the circumstances of the birth of this one and the aims had by its creation.

This government intervened pursuant to the decisions taken by the National council of the Algerian revolution (CNRA) at its meeting held in Cairo from August 22nd to 28th 1958, during which the Coordination committee and of execution (the CEC) was in charge to announce the creation of a provisional government, to complete the installation of the institutions of the “Revolution” and the rebuilding of a Algerian State modern.

The Provisional government had put the French authorities in front of the accomplished fact whereas those claimed not to have of interlocutor to negotiate.

Between 1958 and 1962, there were three formations of the Provisional government of the Algerian Republic.
