Provinces of Vietnam

The Vietnam is divided into sixty provinces ( tỉnh , of the Mandarin 省 shěng). There are also five municipalities ( thủ đô , of Mandarin 首都 shǒudū) which have an administrative organization and excécutive similar to the provinces.

Government

The provinces Vietnameses, theoretically, are led by the popular Council, elected by the population. This council is assisted of a popular committee which is the executive. This organization begins again in simplified that of the central government.

Popular committee

The popular Committee is the executive of the provincial government. It prepares and sets up the projects. It has a president, a vice-president and between nine and eleven members.

List and given

Hồ Chí Minh City, one of the five municipalities, is populated of it with more than five million inhabitants. The second most populated zone is the province of Thanh Hóa, with more than 3,5 million inhabitants. The least populated is the mountainous and offset province of Lai Châu in the North-West.

In surface, the largest province is that of Nghệ An. Smallest is that of Bắc Ninh, located in the delta of the Red Fleuve.

In conformity with the changes carried out into 2003 which are the following:

  • creation of the Province of Dien Well
  • creation of the Province of Dak Nong
  • division of the province of Edge Tho between Municipality of Edge Tho and Province of Hau Giang
