Provinces of China
The borders of the majority of the Province S of China were established at the end of the Dynastie Ming. The principal changes since then were the reorganization of the provinces of the North-East after the seizure of power by the Chinese Communist party in 1949 and the establishment of autonomous regions based on the Soviet theory of nationality after 1949.

Discussed province
The Popular republic of China regards Taiwan (台湾 Táiwān , shortened 台, Tái ) as its twenty-third province. See Statute of Taiwan for further information. The charts from China published in Taiwan frequently represent the provincial borders such as they were in 1949, and which do not correspond to the current administrative structure.
