The the Flemish Brabant is a province of Belgium located in Flemish Région.
The Province of the Flemish Brabant (or province of the Flemish Brabant ) was born from the scission of old the province of the Brabant, the implementation of this scission was operated by a cooperation agreement signed the May 30th 1993 between the Federal state, the three areas and the communities French and Flemish.
The official birth of the province of the Flemish Brabant is devoted on January 1st 1995.
The provincial council is elected the same day as the town councils. The distribution of the elected officials was the following in July 2005: 22 CD&V, 21 VLD, 12 SP.A, 10 Vlaams Belang, 8 Groen!, 6 Union of the French-speaking people, 5 ex- Volksunie, Spirit and N-VA. It is it should be noted that in October 2006, of new elections took place.
The provincial executive, the " permanent Delegation " , made up of 6 members (2 CD&V, 2 VLD, 2 SP.A) is based on a coalition between three traditional parties CD&V, SP.A and VLD, is a majority of 55 seats out of 84. It is chaired by the governor, appointed for life, currently (since the creation of the province in 1995) the Socialist Lode (wijk) De Witte.
There exists in addition in the province of the Flemish Brabant an associated governor, police chief of the federal government whose role is, for the common to special statute, to check the application of the laws and payments on the use of the administrative matter languages and scolaire." (Special Law of the 16.7.1993). Current (since 1995) the assistant governor is Guy Desolre (PS, old directing IVe Internationale).
