Province of Tuléar

Toliara or Tuléar is a Province of the Madagascar, vastest with a surface of: 161405 km ². It has a population of: 2229550 inhabitants (July 2001). Its capital is called Toliara. Denomination of " province" has to disappear at least on the political plan and administrative following the last constitutional reform from April 2007 which devotes the areas. The old province of Toliara is subdivided thus in 3 areas: Menabe, South-west and Androy-Anosy.

The climate of the south of Madagascar is a particularly dry semi-arid climate along the west coast. The lack of precipitation and the difficulties of water supply are recurring problems for the population which must face difficult periods of welding. In this area the locusts pilgrims caused these last years of large damage to the cultures.

At the end of 2006 Malnutrition or Kere remade its appearance in Fivondronana of the south. The dryness did not make it possible to have sufficient food reserves and the poverty of part of the population makes the food products inaccessible. The food of food shortage remade their appearance. In the bush, the peasants eat only thorny sheets of " raketa". Sometimes, they mix them with “kily” (tamarin) and “traka” (Brède S).
