The Province of Tarata is one of the 4 provinces which compose the Région of Tacna in the south of the Peru.

It is limited:

  • in north by the Province of Candarave and the Area of Puno,
  • in the east by the Bolivia,
  • in the south and the west by the Province of Tacna.

Administrative divisions

The province has a surface of 2.819,96 km ² and is divided into 8 districts:
  • Tarata

  • Chucatamani
  • Estique
  • Estique-Pampa
  • Sitajara
  • Susapaya
  • Tarucachi
  • Ticaco

Population

It was estimated at 8.670 inhabitants in 2002.

Capital

The capital of the province is the town of Tarata.
