Province of Savannakhet
The province of Savannakhet ( Khouèng Savannakhét ) is a province Laos.
Description
The province of Savannakhet is a province of fifteen districts, the most populated Laos, with 824.662 inhabitants, that is to say approximately 15% of the total population. Its chief town is Savannakhet.The population is made of Lao loum, Thai prejudice, several groups minor of which the My-Khmer (Laven, Katangs, Pako, Suay, Bru, Kalèng), Vietnameses and Chinese. It is in this province that the most interesting vestiges of the track Ho Chi Minh are preserved, principal way of supply used by the North-Vietnamese forces during the Guerre of Indo-China.
In spite of the intensive bombardments all along the track, this province still has forests very dense in which the national zone of conservation of the biodiversity Phou Xang He is (a little more than 1.000 km ²), where about fifteen rare birds and many other animal species found refuge there.
