Province of Satipo

The province of Satipo is one of the 9 provinces which compose the Région of Junín to the Peru. It is limited

  • to north by the Province of Oxapampa (Région of Pasco),
  • in the east by the Province of Atalaya (Région of Ucayali) and the Province of Convención (Région of Cuzco),
  • in the south by the Province of Huanta (Région of Ayacucho),
  • in the west by the provinces of Chanchamayo, Jauja, Concepción and Huancayo, and the Province of Tayacaja (Région of Huancavelica).

History

The territory of the province was populated by the Ashaninkas then colonists come from other areas of Peru settled there. September 18th, 1940, the district of Satipo was created, formant left the province of Jauja. This district was set up in province on March 26th, 1965.

The province of Satipo has a surface of 19 219,48 km ² and is divided into 8 districts:

Demography

The population of the province was of 93.685 inhabitants to the last census of 2005 compared with 94.250 in 1993.

Economy

The province has an agricultural activity of plantations: cocoa, coffee, banana, papaw, orange.
