The province of Oki was a place of exile. The emperor Go-Toba and the emperor Go-Daigo were sent there.
Since the Period Kamakura, the province of Oki is controlled by the Shugo of the Province of Izumo. During the Period Muromachi, the province was controlled successively by the Clan Sasaki, the Clan Yamana and the Clan Kyogoku. During the Period Sengoku, the Clan Amako had the province.
