Province of Nuoro

The province of Nuoro (in Italian, provincia di Nuoro ) is one of the eight provinces of the Sardinia, in a central and moved back area, centered around the Barbagia. Its territory was recently reduced because of the creation of the Province of Ogliastra in May 2005.

According to article 2 of its statute, the province of Nuoro included/understood the following historical areas:
  • Nuorese (area of Nuoro);
  • Barbagie (plural of Barbagia):
    • Barbagia de Belvì,
    • Barbagia d' Ollolai,
    • Barbagia de Seulo;
  • the Baronie;
  • the Marghine (between the Province of Sassari and that of Oristano, near of Planargia);
  • the Planargia (on the Western coast of the island, around Worked);
  • the Ogliastra (this historical province constitutes from now on the Province of Ogliastra since May 2005);
  • the Sarcidano;
  • Mandrolisai, also called Barbagia Mandrolisai.
