The province of Melgar is one of the 13 provinces which compose the Région of Puno to the Peru. It is limited

• to north by the Province of Carabaya,
• in the east by the Province of Azángaro,
• in the south by the Province of Phosphoresced,
• in the west by the Région of Cuzco.

Administrative divisions

The province has a surface of 6  446,85 km ² and are divided into 9 districts:

• Antauta

• Ayaviri
• Cupi
• Llalli
• Macari
• Ñuñoa
• Orurillo
• Santa Rosa
• Umachiri

Population

The population of the province was estimated at 84.830 inhabitants in 2002.

Capital

The capital of the province is the town of Ayaviri
