Province of Kōzuke

The province of Kōzuke (上野国, Kōzuke-No kuni ) is a old province Japan which corresponds to current the Préfecture of Gunma.

The old capital of the province, Takasaki, was located close to current the Maebashi. For the Sengoku period, Kōzuke was controlled in turn by Shingen Takeda, Kenshin Uesugi, the clan Hōjō and Ieyasu Tokugawa. The Clan Yamana is originating in this province.

During the Period Edo, the province was divided of 14 districts.
