Province of Iyo

Iyo (伊予国; - No kuni) is an old province of the Japan which was in an area which is today the Préfecture of Ehime, on the island of Shikoku. Iyo was surrounded by the provinces of Awa, Sanuki and Tosa.

The old provincial capital was located close to the modern city of Imabari. For the Sengoku period, the province was divided into several strongholds, largest being organized around the castle of Matsuyama. The province was briefly unified by the Clan Chosokabe, coming from the province close to Tosa.
