Province of Iburi

Iburi (胆振国, - No kuni) is an old province of the Japan which had one short duration of life. It was located on the island of Hokkaido. It corresponds to current subpréfecture of Iburi to which one adds part of subpréfecture of Ishikari and another part of subpréfecture of Kamikawa.

History

  • August 15th 1869: the province of Iburi is established and divided into 8 districts.
  • 1872 : the population of the province is of 6251 inhabitants.
  • 1882 : all the provinces of Hokkaido amalgamate.

Districts

The districts of the old province remain still today in the division of the island of Hokkaido.
  • Yamakoshi (山越郡)
  • Abuta (虻田郡)
  • Usu (有珠郡)
  • Muroran (室蘭郡), removed the 1918.
  • Yoribetsu (幌別郡), removed the 1970.
  • Shiraoi (白老郡)
  • Yufutsu (勇払郡)
  • Chitose (千歳郡), removed the November 11th 1970.
