Province of Dewa
Dewa (出羽国; - No kuni) is an old province of the Japan which occupied an area which is shared today between the prefectures of Yamagata and Akita.
Dewa is resulting from the scission of the province of Echigo which took place in 708.
Kagemori Akechi was vice-governor at the 13th century.
For the Sengoku period, the grounds which are currently located in the South of the prefecture of Yamagata were held by the Clan Mogami and the northern part of the prefecture by the Clan Akita. The two clans fought at the sides of Ieyasu Tokugawa with the Bataille of Sekigahara. The Clan Sakai had the stronghold of Shonai in the province.
