Province of Chota

The Province of Chota is one of the 13 provinces which compose the Région of Cajamarca in the north of the Peru. It is limited

  • to north by the Province of Cutervo,
  • in the east by the provinces of Utcubamba and Luya (Région of Amazonas),
  • in the south by the provinces of Celendín, Hualgayoc and Santa Cruz
  • in the west by the provinces of Ferreñafe and Chiclayo (Région of Lambayeque).

The population of the province was estimated in 2002 at 196.555 inhabitants.

Capital

The capital of the province is the town of Chota .

Remarkable sites

There exist important archaeological vestiges like
  • the turns of Chiguirip, Agomarca and Chetilla,
  • the ruins of Churucancha, Condorcaga, Andamayo, Samacuy, Viejo Huambos and Chot-Marc.

One can also benefit from thermal springs of Cumpampa (Tacabamba), Tacshana (Conchán), Choropampa and Chadín, and of those of Chancay.
