Province of Chikugo

Chikugo (筑後国; Chikugo No kuni ) is an old province of the Japan which corresponds to the southern part of current the Préfecture of Fukuoka, on the island of Kyūshū. The province of Chikugo was bordered by the provinces of Hizen, of Chikuzen of Bungo and Higo.

The old capital of the province was located close to the modern city of Kurume. During the Period Edo, the province was divided into two han (strongholds) held one by the Clan Tachibana, the other by the Clan Arima.
