Province of Ardabil

Ardabil (in Persan: RTL F اردبیل , another name: Ardebil , ancient name: Artavil ) is one of the 30 provinces of Iran and constitutes one of the 3 provinces of the Iranian Azerbaïdjan. Its borders are formed of the Republic of Azerbaïdjan in north, the west by the province of the Azerbaïdjan of the east and in the south by the Province of Zanjan and the Gilan. Its capital is the town of Ardabil. The province was part of the province of Azerbaïdjan of the east, and was separate to form a clean province in 1993. Ardabil is the place or is the sanctuary and fall it from Sheikh Safî AD-DIN, whose name is at the origin of the dynasty Safavide.

Climate, geography and demography

Many tourists come in this area for its fresh climate (to the maximum 35°C) during the summer months. The winters are very cold, with temperatures falling with -25°C. The province is regarded per many Iranian as being coldest of Iran.

The province of Ardabil has a surface of 18011 km ². The capital of the province, Ardabil, is located at 70 km of the Caspian Sea. The city has a great political and economic importance in the north of Iran.

The natural attraction of the most famous area is the mounts Savalan. Most of the province is covered with green forests. The coastal plain of Caspian borders the western part of the province.

There are many sources of warm water and splendid landscapes which attract the tourists. The sources of the area of Ardabil are Beele-Darreh, Sar' eyn, Sardabeh and Booshloo, which are famous for their medicinal qualities in all Iran.

There are also many lakes: largest are Ne' gold, Shoorabil, ShoorGel, NouShahr and Aloocheh which is used as habitat with some species of water birds. The very beautiful lake Ne' gold is located in an mountainous area at 48 km at the south-east of the town of Ardabil. It covers a surface of 2,1km ² and has an average depth of 3 meters.

The lake is fed by sources located at the bottom of the lake. The lake Shoorabil is located in a zone of hills at the south of the town of Ardabil and covers a surface of 640000m ². The surface of the lake is covered with a fine white layer of minerals, which is useful to look after the skin diseases and rheumatisms. Beside the lake the complex of leisures of Shoorabil is.

The majority of the population of the province are Azeri .

History

The history of the province has close links with those of the close Azerbaïdjan. The province is supposed to date from the time Achéménide. It is mentioned in the Avesta, where it is known as that Zoroastre was born at the edge of the river Araks and wrote its book in the mounts Savalan. During the conquest of Iran by the Islam, Ardabil was more the big city of Azerbaïdjan, and until the period of the invasion Mongolian E remained.

Shah Ismail Ier began his countryside to nationalize the government of Iran and his territory since this province, but then made Tabriz his capital in 1500. Ardabil however remained a political and economic center of importance until modern times.

Culture

The origin of the town of Ardabil goes back to 4 to 6000 years (according to the historical studies built in the city). This city was the capital of the province of Azerbaïdjan has various times, but its golden age was for the period Safavide.

The historic buildings of importance are the following: the mausoleum of Sheik Jebra' it, located at 2 km in the north of Ardabil, the bazaar of the city, Babadavood anbaran, the Mosque of Friday of Ardabil and the old bridges disseminated in the province.
