The province of Ōmi (近江国, Ōmi No kuni ) is a old province Japan which corresponds to current the Préfecture of Shiga. It constituted a relay-key of the road of the Tōkaidō.
The old capital was located close to Ōtsu, which was also a city having castle of major importance. During the Period Sengoku, the northern part of the province was the stronghold of Mitsunari Ishida, the opponent of Ieyasu Tokugawa with the Bataille of Sekigahara, although it spent more time to the Château of Osaka managing the stronghold of the young person wire of Hideyoshi Toyotomi. After the defeat of Ishida, Tokugawa gave the stronghold to its allies of the Clan II, which built the castle and the town of Hikone on the ruins of Sawayama.
