Protopunk

The term Protopunk is used to describe the precursory artists of the Punk rock'n'roll, or those which were quoted by the first punks like source of inspiration.

The majority of the artists attached to the protopunk are artists of Rock “roll of the Années 1960 and beginning of the Années 1970, although certain older artists were named thus. The Garage rock'n'roll is in general quoted like an essential source in the development of the Punk rock'n'roll. Many artists of Garage rock'n'roll are present on compilations Nuggets .

The protopunk proved to be difficult to define, and much very different groups however were described as protopunk . The majority adopted a certain attitude or an appearance considered as important, in opposition to other quite specific musical tendencies. The examples most important are The Who (commonly called " The Godfathers off Punk " ( godfathers of the Punk ) and much of groups going of MC5 to Fightstar), Iggy Pop (commonly called " The Grandfather off Punk " (the Grandfather of the Punk) and considered per many artists Punk first hour) and its group The Stooges, Alice Cooper, Father Ubu, MC5, The Monks, David Bowie, The Velvet Underground, The Modern Lovers, T.Rex, Link Wray, Television, and the New York Frauds.

Certain groups of protopunk were classified like pertaining to the Glam rock'n'roll or the Pub rock'n'roll. Father Ubu, for example, was found in the category protopunk and the category Post-punk.
