Proteus (kind)
Proteus is a kind of Bactérie S of the family of the Enterobacteriaceae, commensal of the digestive tract.
General information
Family of Enterobacteriaceae. Germinate commensal of the digestive tract, ONPG-negative, TDA-positive, which invades the surface of the gélosés mediums. Very mobile bacillus, aéro-anaerobe, in negative Gram, oxydase negative, positive nitrate and which ferments glucose. Proteus are very polymorphic: long and filamentous forms or small right bacilli (Protée is a god of Greek mythology which changed form at will).
Pathogenic capacity
Germinate implied in urinary infections (10% of the urinary infections downtown) and other infections.Farming characters
Proteus are not bacteria exigentes. They of course push ordinary mediums such as the géloses BCP, Drigalski, Mac conkey and others…
The colonies diffuse on the rich mediums and give an aspect in tablecloth. These bacteria have a characteristic unpleasant odor
Principal biochemical characters
- fermentation of sugars: glucose+
- reduction of nitrite nitrates: NO3+
-
metabolism of indol tryptophan: ind-
- ONPG-
- ornithin décarboxylase: ODC+
- H2S+
- urease+
- TDA+
- VP-
- Lactose
Natural resistance
P. mirabilis is naturally resistant to the colistine. Stocks sensitive to all the beta-lactam antibiotics (not of céphalosporinase chromosomal of class C, example: Proteus mirabilis 1761).
Acquired resistance
Mechanisms identical to those described for E. coli. 1. beta-lactamase of class has high level (penicillinase): carbénicillinases (standard PSE-4) were described. 2. resistance to the inhibiters of beta-lactamases: a mutant of the type TEM, IRT-2 (Arg244Ser), was described in partnership with TEM-1 in a stock insensitive with the inhibiters of beta-lactamases of class A. 3. beta-lactamases of class have with wide spectrum (BLSE): a stock producing TEM-10 was described. 4. resistance to the imipénème: at P. mirabilis, it is not enzymatic origin. Resistance to the imipénème seems associated with a deterioration with the PLP1A and 2 (proteins binding penicillin).
