History

It is in 1866 that a particular rich person, Mr. Leon Noguier builds a Protestant hospital, which will become later " the Private hospital Protestante".

At the time of excavation work the workmen discovered an ancient mosaic of a great richness, of 3,37m by 2,75m. This mosaic was found protected by boards and stones, the engineer and architect Jacques Philippe Mareschal (originator of the Jardins of the Fountain in Nimes, located near) had undoubtedly updated it during its great work of the quays and channels of the Fountain, and had had to protect it before covering it with ground.

Very quickly, the establishment will be a certain success thanks to the care which it takes.

Towards the beginning of June 1884, a choleraic epidemic, probably brought by a returning ship of Tonkin, is declared with Toulon, the epidemic is not long in touching Marseilles. To prevent any event, the Protestant Private hospital will be reserved for the choleraic ones. In parallel, one took exceptional measures of healthiness and cleanliness. Nimes will remain unscathed, the cases which arised touched only travellers of the localities contaminated.

The establishment is related to a whole of social associations, and partner of old people's homes. With its origin, the institution received free the poor patients of the two sexes belonging to the various Protestant churches of the locality.

The MSPN is member of the Federation of the Protestant Mutual aid. It is in close connection with the Reformed Church of Nimes, and wants to remain faithful to the spirit in which it was founded. She seeks to meet the needs for health of the elderly population in the respect of the people who call upon her, whatever their convictions or social condition. To this end, it undertakes a constant research to adapt its services to the needs and techniques for the moment.

Following a financial serious attack a few years ago, the hospital activities had to be moved towards other hospitals. Having found a certain financial health with in the chair Mr. Cadène, the Protestant Private hospital is from now on an important old people's home and also tends to develop dwellings specific to the elderly.
