Protestant church of Berg

the Protestant Church of Berg is a church protesting E of Berg of the old county of Nassau-Saarbrucken, is interesting of share its architecture unique in France. It was built in 1773, within the framework of the architectural program (concerning also 6 other parishes around) carried out by the king of France Louis XV and Guillaume Henri, count de Nassau, according to the plans of the architect Frederic Joachim Stengel. The purpose of the rise in this new church was to put an end to the simultaneism between the confessions Protestant woman and catholic in only one church, source of quarrels between the inhabitants. The silent partners financed the projects with height of each one half.

The characteristic of this church is its “Breitsaal”, specifically adapted to the liturgy Protestant and characterized by its room out of dispatcher, in which the faithful ones are divided into horseshoe around the furnace bridge. The bell-tower in bulb is also an originality of the site. One can also admire paintings of the 18th century, representing Christ and his apostles. The church is classified with the historic buildings since 1985.

Stengel was the director of constructions of princes de Nassau, he led the construction of splendid churches and castles baroques to Saarbrucken, still visible nowadays, as well as many churches in the area.
