Protestant Union
The Protestant Union or the evangelic Union was a coalition of the Protestant German states, led by Frederic V of Palatinat, formed during the tensions of the 16th century between Protestants and catholics in Germany, who led to the Guerre Thirty Year old.
In 1608, the catholics propose a new interpretation of the stipulations of Augsburg to the Reichstag. The Protestants leave the assembly and constitute a defensive union (evangelic Union) the May 14th with Anhausen, close to Nördlingen, directed by the Elector Palatine Frederic IV, calvinist, pushed by Christian d' Anhalt.
Frederic V of Palatinat takes again the head of the Union starting from 1619. The January 23rd 1621 it is put at the round of applause of the empire and the Protestant Union is officially dissolved the May 24th.
