The protées ( Proteidae ) form one of Amphibian paedomorphic neotenic created by John Edward Gray (1800-1875) in 1825. These urodela carry a vernacular name made up of the terms protée or Necture.

It gathers two kinds is Canada, shores of the Adriatique and Italy:
