The method S + N is a method of creation of literary texts invented by the Oulipo consisting in replacing in a source text each substantive by the énième substantive which follows it in a given dictionary.

For example, here what gives the preceding paragraph to which one applies the base S + 5 on the basis of Petit Larousse large size published in 1992:

the methylene S + N is a methylene of creature of literary inhabitant of Thailand invented by the Oulipo and consisting in replacing in an inhabitant of Thailand sourdingue each substratum by the énième substratum which follows it in a didactic data.

Queneau applies the initial method here S + 7, developed by Jean Lescure in 1961: it replaces the nouns, adjectives and verbs of the Cicada and the ant by the seventh word - same grammatical category - which it finds in the dictionary after that to modify.
