Prospero Alpini

Auchel is a common French, located in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais. It belongs to the Communauté of agglomeration of the Artois which gathers 58 common S, that is to say 200  000 inhabitants.

Geography

History

The territory depended on the family of Olhain at the 15th century then of the family of Béthune at the 18th century.

Discovered of a carboniferous layer in 1851. This old mining commune passed very close to the 15.000 inhabitants in the years 1950. The coal recession at the end of the years 1960 in the pleasing sector has important and constant fall of the population, in spite of the many efforts of the municipalities installation during and after the recession.
