Prosper April, born the December 12th 1937 with Thomazeau is a general and a former president of Haiti.

Prosper April passed most of his military career to the National Palate, where it dealt with the supply equipment and armaments. From its position, it was also one of the advisers of the president Jean-Claude Duvalier. He is member of the National council of the government, the junta civilo-soldier trained with the fall of Duvalier in 1986. He chaired starting from the September 17th 1988 following a coup d'etat against the general Henri Namphy, until the March 10th 1990 where he left in exile under the pressure the political opponents supported by the French governments and American.

Returned to the country in 1993, it carried out a discrete existence until its arrest in 2001, little time after the election of Jean-Bertrand Aristide with the presidency, for conspiracy against the State. It remained in prison during three years, in spite of court orders returned in its favor. It was released when president Aristide was obliged to leave the country the February 29th 2004.

Prosper April is writer today. Among his works, one can quote: Haiti 1995-2000: The Black Book of the Insecurity, and the Army of Haiti: Torturer or Victim?.
